Field Trips

​2026 Field Trip Schedule:

Mark your calendars and join us as often as you are able!

Generally scheduled for the third Saturday of the month but subject to change based on weather and field trip guide availability. Details for each trip will be released in advance closer to the event as noted below.

NON-MEMBERS are always welcome!

Please check the club's general Facebook page for details on final date, time, and meeting location. Search for "Northeast Wisconsin Bird Club" on Facebook and check "Events".

MEMBERS will receive an email with details on final date, time, and meeting location but are also encouraged to check the special "NWBC Members Only" Facebook page.

JANUARY. 10.  FOX CITIES AND FREEDOM AREA.

In search of local wintering specialties including waterfowl along the Fox River and Snowy Owl and other field birds in the Freedom area. 

Meet at Woodman's behind the gas station at 9:00.

​

FEBRUARY. 14.  BUENA VISTA MARSH.

Target:  Winter Owls, Raptors and with a little luck Greater Prairie Chickens.

Meet at 9:00 at the Pick-N-Save parking lot in Waupaca.  east off exit 250 in Waupaca.

MARCH.21 MACK STATE WILDLIFE ARE

Target: Early spring migrants and lingering winter visitors.

Meet at the Bergstrom Observation Deck on Van Patten rd, in Shiocton.

 

APRIL 11. BIRDING BY TROLLEY

Trolley ride through Killsnake, Collins, and Brillion State Wildlife Areas looking for early migrants and waterfowl.

Limited seating available at $15 per person. Register now to assure your seat!

Meets at Chilton Walmart for 8:00 a.m. departure.

Lunch following at Herradura Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, 613 Calumet Street in Chilton.
 

MAY. HIGH CLIFF STATE PARK

Walkabout with club member Dar Tiede in search of spring migrants. 
MAY WEEKENDER.  WASHINGTON ISLAND BIRD FESTIVAL

JUNE. 13. BUENA VISTA GRASSLANDS

Target: Sparrows, Upland Sandpiper, Western Meadowlark, Prairie Chicken, and more!

Meet tour guide Neil Schroeder at 9:00 am in the Pick & Save parking lot east of exit 250 in WAUPACA.
 

JULY. 11.  WOLF RIVER KAYAKING FROM STEVENSVILLE TO HORTONVILLE

Meet at 9:00 at the Stevensville off of Cty-S boat landing. Expect 2.5 hours on the water.
 

AUGUST. 8.  HORICON MARSH (Auto Tour and Old Marsh Road)

Meet in the Woodman's parking lot at 8:00 or the Horicon auto-tour lot at 9:00.

Target: Marsh and grassland birds.

​

SEPTEMBER 12. THE WIOUWASH TRAIL

Meet at the Medina Junction trail-head.  We will be trail hopping to the known hot-spots a

along the Wiouwash trail system.

​

OCTOBER,10. Birding "The Woodpile Wildlife Refuge" with Ross Mueller.

A 300 acre wetland & woodland complex on the north side of Waupaca. 
 949 Marsh Street, Waupaca.

Meet at the parking lot at 9 AM. Plan on slow, easy hiking approximately 2 miles. 

​

NOVEMBER ,15. Lake Michigan Shoreline

Starting in Manitowoc.

Meet at the park & ride on Hwy 10 & County N in Harrison at 9:00.  

 

DECEMBER 14, 2025 to JANUARY 5, 2026 - AUDUBON CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT PERIOD.

2026 DATES WILL BE UPDATED BY NOVEMBER OF 2026.
